It’s said that praise only means something when it comes from the same workbench. We were pleased, therefore, when Steve Leer, chairman and CEO of Arch Coal Inc., told the Associated Press in Wyoming that he sees our refined coal process as a boon to Wyoming Powder River Basin coal.

Speaking with reporters about the future of coal, Leer properly observed to the AP that Wyoming coal burns clean but has a lot of water. He likened the situation to “the difference between putting a dry log on a fire and a wet log on a fire. It just takes more times for the wet log to get going . . . and what you’re really doing is evaporating water, and that takes energy away from the efficiency of the (power) plant.”

Leer went on to say “It would be huge for the PRB.”

His comments underscore Evergreen’s strategic opportunity: industry is actively seeking near-term technologies that can improve the efficiency and environmental performance of coal.
